Lawton, Oklahoma

There’s Plenty to Love About Lawton

A hub in southwestern Oklahoma, Lawton promises plenty for visitors to see and do. Here are a few of our favorite ways to have fun in Lawton.

Learn a thing or two.

Lawton is home to Cameron University, where there’s a lot for everyone – not just students. Located just west of the downtown area, Cameron University is known to host a variety of arts and cultural events and performance – and the school’s beautiful campus is just plain nice for a stroll.

Find a sense of local history.

Fort Sill Museum

The Museum of the Great Plains lets visitors young and old about peer into the lives of the early settlers of the area through a variety of hands-on, educational activities and exhibits, as well as living history performances by professional actors in period dress.

Go even further back.

The Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center boasts a broad collection of Native American artifacts, telling the story of the Comanche Nation and their struggle to survive, through everything from clothing to tools to pottery to weapons.

Pay tribute to the troops.

For history buffs, patriots, and military enthusiasts, the Fort Sill Historic Landmark and Museum is a must. There you’ll find a wide variety of exhibits and artifacts, including communication, uniforms, artillery, and more from every war in which the United States has ever been involved. Best of all – admission is free.

Hit the links.

Sneaking in a round or two is a great way to unwind, whether on a business trip or a family vacation, and golfers are in luck. The Lawton Municipal Golf Course welcomes players of all skill levels with 18 lush and well-groomed holes and a par of 72. Better yet, the course is adjacent to Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport, so you can squeeze in a game before you hop on a plane.

Comanche Nation Casino

Test your luck.

Lawton’s proximity to multiple reservations means visitors aren’t far from a couple of great places to gamble. Just to the east of town, Comanche Nation Casino offers slots, table games and more, and Apache Casino is less than a mile further east.

Cool off.

Should the summer get a bit steamy, families can cool off at the Comanche Nation Waterpark. All the waterpark staples you know and love are here – from the wave pool to the lazy river and multiple exhilarating slides.

Have a cold one.

Lawton is home to plenty of places to throw one back. Check out Harlow's Lounge to drink as the locals do. The local staple promises a relaxing atmosphere and a friendly staff – what better way to get a lay of the land than by socializing with the experts on the area?
