Visiting Greater Oklahoma City
There’ll be plenty for you to see and do the next time you visit Oklahoma City and the surrounding central region. Top attractions, friendly and welcoming locals, and an excellent batch of events and festivals will no doubt create lasting memories for you and all who visit the Sooner State. Throughout the fall, winter, and into 2017, OKC will deliver unmatched thrills.
In the city of El Reno you can explore the actual Fort Reno to gain some unique and important historical perspectives. Not far north of El Reno is Guthrie – check out the very fun and popular Guthrie Historic District; the fall and winter will offer excellent weather for tours.
Just south of downtown OKC is Norman. Your time in Norman this fall will yield one undeniable truth – this is Sooners territory. The University of Oklahoma Sooners will be facing a wide range of tough opponents as they tackle their 2016 college football schedule.
Visit the Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in late 2016 for some incredible matchups. On October 15th the Kansas State Wildcats will be visiting Norman, while on November 12th it’ll be the Baylor Bears in town to face the Sooners. They’ll round out their 2016 campaign on December 3rd against the biggest in-state rivals, the Oklahoma State Cowboys.
Be sure to schedule your fall visit to OKC around Thanksgiving. On November 23rd you’ll be treated to one of the concert events of the year when international superstar and country music queen Carrie Underwood takes the stage. Head for the Chesapeake Energy Arena starting at 7 p.m. to catch Underwood belt out her best hits – and maybe a few new jams.
The Chesapeake Energy Arena is one of the state’s premier event venues, hosting top performers, events, expos, and sporting events all year round. The Carrie Underwood show is just the tip of the iceberg – check out the comedy of Jeff Dunham when he takes to the CEA stage on December 2nd, and the Professional Bull Riders will be treating rodeo fans on January 21st and 22nd as part of the Built Ford Tough Series.
Basketball fans will no doubt want to catch an exciting Oklahoma City Thunder game during a visit. The Thunder play all home games at the Chesapeake Energy Arena, and have matchups slated until April 12th, their final home game of the year, against the Denver Nuggets.
For those planning their visit to OKC for the early part of summer 2017, you’re in luck. From May 9th to the 28th at the Civic Center Music Hall, part of the Thelma Gaylord Performing Arts Theatre, the smash-hit Broadway play, and popular animated movie, Disney’s The Lion King will be in town. Drive in from nearby Edmond, Yukon, or Midwest City and catch a live performance you won’t soon forget.
