As the University of Tulsa and Oral Roberts University wrap up the school year, spring and summer bring life to Tulsa. The 40th Annual Tulsa International Mayfest, an outdoor tribute to the arts and music, is on tap for May 17 - 20, in beautiful downtown Tulsa. The Tulsa Performing Arts Center hosts SummerStage Tulsa adding eight weeks of performing arts events to June and July’s calendar. Meanwhile sports fans flock to ONEOK Field to cheer on the Tulsa Drillers, while basketball fans fill the City of Tulsa’s BOK Center for WNBA Tulsa Shock games. Celebrate the season at events and festivals in Tulsa and northwest Oklahoma.
Broken Bow hosts the 2012 Wood Carvers World June 15th and 16th. For over 30 years, woodworkers and carvers have gathered for Broken Bow’s wood carving show. The 2012 featured artist is Master Bird Carver Neil Nulton. Wood Carvers World events include seminars for beginners, artist demonstrations and a wood carving competition.
Glenpool celebrates its oil heritage at the 2012 Glenpool Black Gold Days and Music Festival. Held June 14 through the 16th, events kick off with the Glenpool Boy Scouts raising the American flag followed by the opening night carnival. Black Gold Park at Highway 75 and 146th in Glenpool hosts events including the three-day music festival, horseshoe tournaments and kid’s activities. The various stages of the Tulsa Performing Arts Center fill with 2012 SummerStage Tulsa events, June 15th through July 27th. The PAC’s Norman, Doenges and Williams Theatre stages host over 25 productions during SummerStage. Celebrate the close of summer in Bartlesville at the 2012 Oklahoma Indian Summer Festival. Celebrating its 25th anniversary, festivities run September 20th through the 22nd. Throughout the long weekend, works of selected American Indian and Western Artists are on display in Bartlesville Community Center – an ideal place for collectors to pick up new pieces. The annual intertribal Powwow is Friday and Saturday evening in the Powwow arena set up in the community center parking lot.
